AUSTIN (March 18, 2010)--Gov. Rick Perry ordered Texas National Guard helicopters to the border Thursday to support law enforcement efforts to block spillover of Mexican border violence into Texas.
Perry's office said Thursday the Texas Military Forces OH-58 Kiowa and UH-72 Lakota helicopters, which are part of the initial phase of his spillover violence contingency plan, will fly between Brownsville and El Paso, but their "number and exact location will not be disclosed for operational security purposes.
The aircraft will complement those already deployed to the border by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“As we continue to increase our resources and personnel along the border to combat the threat of spillover violence, we are deploying multiple Texas Military Forces helicopters to the Texas-Mexico border to increase aerial surveillance,” Perry said.
“These resources, along with Texas Department of Public Safety aviation assets, are vital to gathering information from a bird’s eye view and relaying important intelligence back to local, state and federal law enforcement on the ground to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
The contingency plan also calls for increased border surveillance, timely sharing of intelligence information, increased presence on the ground and in the air and increased helicopter operations along the border, the governor’s office said.
DPS SWAT Teams and Trooper Strike Teams, as well as Ranger Recon Teams were on standby, along with other resources.

Well said Armando! Welcome to the real brotherhood!!! I’m aware of some the stuff from a few years ago, when I had the chance to go to Colombia. It’s rough and like a virus that spreads to even here. M13 is active in our cities, even now. I think it will come down to armed vigilantes patrolling our streets, and citizens toting iron. It’ll be the old west again, in spades. (For we know that our police can’t be everywhere. In the bigger cities, the law prevents that, even as we are murdered as we go to the store.) But, until that time, let’s hold the tide back, as long as we can. Let’s give our kids the chance to grow up knowing some semblance of peace, before they have to take up the fight. Let’s support the men on the border, standing between murderers and us.
The drug war spilled over to U.S. soil a long time ago. I am all for anything that can SLOW it down. This war will never stop. The cartels and their thugs are not afraid to die and enjoy killing. I used to be an "associate" with these guys. I then got married and had children and decided I wanted the real"American Dream", to raise a law abiding God fearing family. I can not take back what I did in the past. I will say that this will never stop. You all would be amaized at how many law and goverment officials are on the Cartel's payroll. America, prepair for a bloody war. This scum, Cartels, will stop at nothing. God Bless all you wonderful Americans who wish the best for all good people in this wonderful country.
Put some mines along the border and see if that stops them from invading our country. They will be walking around like pegleg Pete and nobody will hire them.
