SAN ANTONIO (July 26, 2010)--The state of Texas is opposing an attempt by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to trademark the phrase "The Alamo,” arguing in a brief filed Friday with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that Texas is the rightful owner of the trademark.
The state says the Daughters' application would likely cause confusion.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Houston attorney Paul Van Slyke filed the brief on behalf of Gov. Rick Perry's office.
After finding out the Daughters, the longtime custodians of the state-owned Alamo, had filed for the trademark, the state asked for a time extension to look into the matter.
The Daughters now have until Sept. 1 to answer the state's opposition.

Real you don't understand, Jen is correct.
Texas should have already applied for the Trademark on the Alamo. It's the 'only' way to control it, and it's use!! It should be granted. If not then move on to a Higher Court. You don't understand Jen:Waco.
Sorry ladies! The Alamo belongs to all Texans. How on earth would you control this? Sue anyone who uses the phrase 'The Alamo'?? This sounds way out of line.
