SAN ANTONIO (January 30, 2012)—Luis Vera, an attorney for one of the nation's largest Latino organizations, said Monday negotiations between the state and minority groups over Texas redistricting maps have stalled.

Vera said Monday he wouldn't bet on a deal being reached in time to salvage the state’s April 3 primary elections.

Vera represents the League of United Latin American Citizens, one of nine plaintiffs suing the state over newly drawn political districts.

Vera said a major obstacle is that the state isn't involving all the parties in negotiations.

The Texas attorney general's office did not immediately return an email seeking comment.

A federal court last week in San Antonio gave both sides a Feb. 6 deadline to reach an agreement over temporary maps.

If they don't, the state's primary elections will be pushed back again.
