AUSTIN (January 24, 2012)--U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz raised $1.1 million for his campaign in the final three months of 2011 and the former Texas solicitor general has raised more than $4 million since entering the race.

He has $2.8 million on hand going into the final months of the Republican primary race.

Cruz reported Tuesday that he had more than 12,000 donors to his campaign.

The new totals and recent polls make Cruz one of the frontrunners, alongside Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who has $6.1 million in the bank for his campaign.

Altogether, 10 candidates are running for the Republican nomination.

The other top candidates include former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and former ESPN football analyst Craig James.’

The Republican primary is scheduled for April 3, but that is likely to change because of the ongoing legal battle over the state’s new legislative maps.
