Cold north winds continue the transport of chilly air into Texas. The next ingredient in the mix is precip, and the dilemma is second-guessing temperatures across a 16 county broadcast area!
Here's what we know as of Thursday mid-afternoon: The cold air continues to deepen across Central Texas, however forecast temperatures should remain ABOVE freezing along and east of I-35 through late tonight. This would keep approaching raindrops in liquid form EXCEPT in areas west and northwest of Waco-Temple-Killeen where readings fall below 32° after dark.
Light rain will change to freezing rain (rain that falls liquid but freezes on contact with surfaces) and will spread into Central Texas just prior to dawn Friday. Bridges and overpasses will be first to ice up during those early morning hours!
Temperatures will likely remain below 32° for much of Friday and all of Saturday. We could see another round of light freezing rain or sleet on Saturday, so icy conditions this weekend are possible.
Please keep up-to-date with the very latest on the weather conditions and avoid travel if possible Friday and Saturday. These winter conditions could become dangerous for motorists at times, particularly across areas west and north of Waco-Temple-Killeen!
