WACO, Texas (KWTX) The Baylor Police Department isn’t taking the summer off when it comes to safety.

Campus police are urging students and staff to call for a “secure ride” if they need to get across campus, but aren’t feeling safe.

The quickest way to hail a ride is by downloading the BU guardian app.

Those who don’t have the app may call (254)710-2211.

Police Chief Brad Wigtil said the program has been around for years, but has recently been revamped.

Rides are offered around the clock seven days a week to students or staff anywhere in the Baylor area.

The average wait time is three minutes.

The department used to use golf carts for the service, but now uses vehicles.

During the school year officers pick up around 15 people but that number decreases during the summer.
