BELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) Central Texas fireworks stands are open for business.

The stands, at which sales started on Dec. 20, can remain open until midnight on Jan. 1.

If you’re headed out to buy fireworks, there are some safety tips you need to know.

First, read the cautionary label before setting off any firework.

Light one firework at a time and always have an adult supervising and handling fireworks.

Don’t be too quick to throw fireworks in the trash after setting them off.

“When the fireworks are done you want to make sure you don't throw them in the trash right away. Let them soak in some water. Let them sit overnight so the trash can won't catch on fire. Also, make sure you don't make any homemade fireworks a lot of people like to do that and it's pretty dangerous. Plus don't hold any lit fireworks in your hands” says Jacob Brank, Fireworks Supply of Texas LLC.

Fire experts suggest keeping a water hose nearby and warn against trying to re-ignite fireworks that don’t go off the first time.
