CAMERON, Texas (KWTX) Cameron Police are asking for the public's help in finding a suspect who stole a dog from the city's animal shelter.

Surveillance footage shows a woman unlocking then opening a metal kennel, putting a leash around the dog's neck, and leaving with the animal in a new model white car.

Police said the city's animal control officer had just finished feeding and walking the female dog when they had to respond to an animal call and left quickly.

After the officer left, police said the woman walked up and freely unlocked the lock at around 12:27 p.m. Wednesday.

The facility is an open/outside pen enclosed from the weather.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cameron Police at (254) 697-6574.
