COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) Copperas Cove needs more firefighters, a fire official says.

Fire officials and the Copperas Cove City Council met Tuesday to discuss the increase of emergency calls and the need for more firefighters.

Back in 2013, more than $7 million was allocated for the design and construction of a fourth fire station.

The fire chief says they also need more firefighters to work at Station No. 3.

The department now has a total of 49 personnel spread across the three stations.

"We are in immediate need for additional firefighters for Station 3, so the Station 3 is more appropriately staffed. We can have our fire truck actually in service all of the time and then the need for fire Station 4 in the increased personnel and apparatus for that station,” Chief Michael Neujahr said.

The council will revisit the issue at its next meeting.
