LORENA, Texas (KWTX) Two people died just after noon Wednesday in a major crash on I-35 between Waco and Temple in which the wet weather may have played a role.
Jose Oscar Rivas, 25, of Waco and Rosa Isela Zepeda, 34, of Eddy, died when the 2003 Ford Explorer Rivas was driving veered off the highway and slammed into a pillar.
The crash on the southbound Interstate at Rosenthal Road in Lorena closed the right lane of the highway, the Texas Department of Transportation said.
Traffic was directed onto the access road, TxDOT said.
The accident scene was cleared by 1:30 p.m.
A second accident reported on the southbound interstate at Old Lorena Road also slowed traffic.
That scene was cleared by around 12:30 p.m., TxDOT said.
