GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) Gatesville schools are getting daily deep cleanings to ward off the flu, the Gatesville ISD said in a letter Wednesday.
The letter says a high number of “student and staff members…have missed school” because of rampant illness, and says each campus is being deep cleaned daily in order to combat it.
Superintendent Eric Penrod says attendance in the district overall is relatively normal, but says the letter was sent out to reassure parents.
“The intent is to always proactively address an issue that is impacting the entire state and country,” Penrod said.
Parents are being urged to children at home if they are experiencing cold or flu symptoms such as coughing, chills, and vomiting.
The letter also points out that students should remain at home for two days after having had a fever of 100 degrees or higher.
Penrod says the district is constantly facing new cases, and the letter serves as a reminder of good hygiene and how parents should respond to symptoms in order to keep the virus from spreading.
“The health of the child is more important than coming to school when sick,” he says.
