HILLSBORO, Texas (KWTX) Two teenagers are in custody after a police officer says he saw them burglarizing a vehicle in Hillsboro.

The burglary occurred at around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Craig Street, the Hillsboro Department of Public Safety said.

Once spotted, the juveniles fled and were caught a short time later, police said.

The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were taken to the Limestone County Juvenile Center pending further investigation.

Police believe the 16-year-old is linked to numerous other vehicle burglaries in the area.

At least 10 unlocked vehicles appear to have been burglarized over the past two weeks, police said.

The Hillsboro DPS is encouraging residents to lock their vehicles to avoid being a victim of theft.
