KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A Killeen man convicted of killing his roommate was sentenced Thursday.

Jurors decided on a 7-year prison sentence for Frankie Nathaniel Boyd III, but recommended probation, which the judge accepted.

Boyd was originally indicted for murder in connection with the Dec. 22, 2016 death of Randy Joe Oliver, 52, who was found lying in the yard of a home in the 500 block of Libra Drive.

Oliver died at Scott & White Hospital on Christmas Eve 2016.

An arrest affidavit says Oliver was struck in the head.

Officers questioned Boyd and later took him into custody.
