KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) The Killeen Police Department announced Wednesday that it’s launching a Safe Exchange Zone program to protect online buyers and sellers.

The Safe Exchange Zone is in the lobby of the department’s headquarters building at 3304 Community Blvd., and offers residents who are buying or selling items from such websites as Craigslist and eBay a monitored place to complete transactions.

Police encourage residents to arrange such meetings during daylight hours and ask that they do not leave large or bulky items in the parking lot.

The offer comes with a disclaimer.

“The City of Killeen or its employees are not responsible in any way for the value, authenticity, or legitimacy of such transactions. City of Killeen employees will not act as official witnesses to transactions, do not give legal advice and will not settle civil disputes related to any transaction.”
