WACO, Texas (KWTX) It was a different spin on speed dating that helped the League of Women Voters of Waco host a candidate forum Tuesday night.
“It’s nice because it is in between a formal debate and a meet and greet,” Christina Chan-Park said.
The group hosted a round table but instead of the candidates speaking one-by-one at the podium, they went table-to-table to meet with voters.
“I recognize names and sometimes faces from the newspaper, but I’ve met very few of the candidates before tonight,” Ivy Hamerly said.
“I really prefer standing in the voting booth and knowing what ideas those names go with.”
The candidates for McLennan County judge, criminal district attorney and precinct’s two and four county commissioners were represented.
Members said the Waco chapter reorganized in September and a candidate’s forum was tops on its list.
“I will admit that I have lived here, in Waco, for seven years now and this is the first time that I have met several of my elected representatives,” Rebecca Flavin said.
The women who helped organized the event said they were happy to that months of work paid off with such a good turnout.
Early voting for the March primary begins on Feb. 20.
