GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) A Copperas Cove man convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child in a case involving an 11-year-old girl who became pregnant as a result of the assaults is headed to prison for the rest of his life.

Judge Trent Farrell, in 52nd District Court, sentenced Adrian Calderon, 27, to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole, a news release from District Attorney Dustin Boyd said.

The jury found Calderon had sexually abused a child who was younger than 14 a number of times over a period of more than 30 days.

The state law to stiffen the penalty for the crime, commonly referred to as Jessica’s Law, was changed in 2007.

The state presented evidence during trial that Calderon impregnated the 11-year-old girl in February 2015 and then sexually assaulted her at least once again in June 2015.
