LORENA, Texas (KWTX) A 29-year-old man was jailed Tuesday after a weird low-speed chase on an Interstate 35 access road that ultimately involved officers from five local departments.

The chase started shortly before 10 p.m. Monday after a Lorena officer spotted the machine headed north on the I-35 access road without any reflective safety markings or lights, police said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

The officer tried to pull the Skytrak telehandler over, but the driver refused stop and continued to head north at a speed of about 20 miles per hour, police said.

Officers from the Hewitt, Robinson and Bruceville-Eddy police departments and McLennan County deputies joined the chase, which started around mile marker 322 and ended near mile marker 332 when deputies fired a non-lethal projectile at the driver, who was taken into custody.

Edwin Cyrus Rodriguez, 29, of San Antonio was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center to be checked out and then was taken to the McLennan County Jail where he’s held in lieu of bonds totaling $20,000, charged with theft over $30,000, under $150,000 and evading arrest.

The machine was stolen earlier in the day Monday from a construction site in Bruceville-Eddy, police said.
