BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) A Central Texas man was jailed Tuesday facing a list of charges after a Bellmead woman was choked, threatened and held in her apartment against her will.

Joe Lopez, 23, was in the McLennan County Jail Tuesday in lieu of bonds totaling $105,000 charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, burglary of a habitation and kidnapping.

He’s held without bond on a parole violation, according to online jail records.

Lopez was arrested at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Waco after Bellmead officers responded to a report of a disturbance just before 6 a.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Bellmead Drive.

A 26-year-old woman told officers that her former boyfriend showed up at the apartment at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and said he became angry when she told him she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him, police said in a press release Wednesday.

The man took her keys and cellphone and then began to choke her “while making many threats of violence against her and her family,” police said.

The woman eventually was able to get the man to step outside the front door, which she quickly locked before escaping from the rear of her apartment and running to a neighbor’s apartment from where police were called.

When Bellmead officers arrived, they found heavy damage to the front door of the apartment and also discovered that the woman’s vehicle had been stolen.
