LORENA, Texas (KWTX) A convicted criminal the McLennan County Sheriff describes as “a local punk,” is accused of burglarizing two buildings on a homeowner’s property in the Lorena area.

Christopher Athey, 39, has been charged with two counts of burglary of a building, and one count of theft.

At around 2pm Friday, a family member was driving by the home on Fairmeadows Lane and spotted a man parked in the driveway putting items into his vehicle.

The relative followed the man in their truck and called 911.

As MCSO was responding, the suspect was intercepted by Robinson Police.

“I praise the quick response of the Robinson PD and the Sheriff’s Office,” said Parnell McNamara, Sheriff of McLennan County.

The Sheriff also praised the citizen who spotted the crime and called it in.

“It’s so helpful to law enforcement to be the eyes and ears, helps us solve a lot of crimes, “said McNamara.

Athey may have burglarized other homes in the area earlier in the day, McNamara said.

While stolen items from the victim’s home were found in Athey’s vehicle, so were items McNamara believes may belong to other homeowners who were hit without knowing.

“Most burglaries happen while people are at work,” said McNamara. “Be alert to anything going on in your neighborhood that appears to be suspicious activity, that’s how this guy got caught, an observant family member.”

“If it looks bad, it probably is.”

McNamara said Athey was also currently on parole and they were trying to reach his parole officer, so he may be sent back to prison for violating his parole, too.
