Shooting involving local officers leaves one dead, one injured

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) An officer-involved shooting left one man dead and another hurt early Saturday morning in Temple.

Officers responded to a disturbance call involving weapons at the Glen Apartments in the 2600 block of South 39th street at around 3:40 a.m.

Police said when officers arrived they were met with gunfire.

Officers said they fired back in defense and fatally struck a man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said none of the apartment residents knew who the man was.

During the gunfire, another man was struck in his arm.

Police said he was taken to Scott & White Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

None of the officers was hurt.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation with the assistance of the Temple Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.

The department said two officers will be placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
