Authorities have doubled the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction that left a Hillsboro woman dead from $5,000 to $10,000.
Deonshira Slider, 27, was shot during a disturbance reported just before 9 a.m. Feb. 23 at an apartment complex at 309 Interstate 35 in Hillsboro.
She was taken to Hill Regional Hospital and then was transferred to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where she died, police said.
Hillsboro Crime Stoppers initially offered a $2,000 reward in the case late last month and on March 5 boosted the reward offer to $5,000.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 580-9120 or Detective Jose Orozco at (254) 582-8406.
Slider’s mother, Cassandra Washington, says her daughter was shot near the mailboxes at the apartment complex, where she believes someone would have witnessed the murder.
She says nothing was taken from the car which had bullet holes in it.
Even her daughter's purse was left behind.
"Nothing is that bad where you have to shoot somebody down with a child in car," says Washington.
"That's someone who doesn't have a heart whatsoever."
She has an idea of who may have murdered her daughter but says it means little if witnesses don't come forward.
"I just want anyone who has any information just to call the number. Tell them whatever you know," she pleaded.
"Somebody knows something. You can't make me believe this happened at this time in the morning, and nobody knows what's going on. You can't make me believe that."
