Tesla delivers a big battery

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) Tesla says it has come up with the world's largest lithium-ion battery - and has had it plugged into an Australian state power grid.

Tesla chief Elon Musk had promised to build the 100-megawatt battery within 100 days of scoring contracts for the project.

An Australian official says the battery had begun sending power to the state grid yesterday, kicking in 70 megawatts of power.

That's important because Thursday was the first day of the Australian summer, when power usage soars because of increased use of air conditioning.
