SAN MARCOS, Texas (KWTX) Services were scheduled Wednesday for a San Marcos police officer who was shot to death Monday afternoon while serving a warrant with other officers in a subdivision near an elementary school.

Officer Kenneth Copeland, 58, who was wearing a protective vest, was taken to Central Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. next Tuesday at Thomason Funeral Home at 2001 Old RR 12 in San Marcos.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. next Wednesday at Community Bible Church at 2477 TX Loop 1604 in San Marcos.
Burial will follow on the church grounds.
Donations in honor of the fallen officer may be made to the San Marcos Police Department’s Blue Santa program. Checks should be payable to the San Marcos Police Department and “Copeland Blue Santa” should be written in the memo line. Donations may also be made to the 100 Club of Central Texas
On Tuesday Gov. Greg Abbott Tuesday ordered Texas flags lowered to half-staff in honor of the officer.
Flags will remain at half-staff through sunset next Wednesday.
Copeland had been with the department for 19 years.
An arrest warrant was served Tuesday on Stewart Thomas Mettz, 51, who remains in an Austin hospital where he’s being treated for a gunshot wound he received during the incident.
