Locust Grove Mayor Robert Price said Officer Chase Maddox was the city officer who died Friday.

Price said the 26-year-old officer's wife is pregnant and expecting their second child any day.

Price said Maddox had been with the department since he was 22, just out of school.

Price said the police chief and chaplain had spoken with Maddox's wife.

The mayor urged people to keep the young family in their thoughts.

"We just can't believe this happened," he said.

The two deputies had serious injuries.

A suspect was killed.

The shooting happened as the officers were serving an arrest warrant at a home in Locust Grove about 40 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Police blocked off multiple entrances of a subdivision not far from an outlet mall and turned people who didn’t live in the neighborhood away.

Yellow police tape cordoned off a section of one home's front yard.

Nearby Locust Grove Elementary School was put on lockdown.
