Waco: BU announces paid parental leave, adoption assistance

WACO, Texas (KWTX) Baylor University Thursday announced that effective April 1, it will offer paid parental leave for staff members and an adoption assistance program for both faculty and staff members.

Interim university President Dr. David Garland signed the policies into effect Thursday.

“Baylor values its faculty and staff as essential to the fulfillment of its mission, and these important additions to staff and faculty benefits reflect our ongoing commitment to families and the cultivation of a caring community that extends beyond our campus,” Garland said.

“We give thanks to the Human Resources team and Baylor Staff Council for their good work and collaboration on the development of these new benefits.”

The parental leave policy offers as much as four weeks of paid leave for full-time staff members who become parents through birth or adoption.

The adoption assistance program will reimburse as much as $6,000 of qualifying adoption-related expense per adoption for as many as two children per year.
