WACO, Texas (KWTX) Students from Eagle Christian Academy were the first school group to visit Texas State Technical College’s Challenger Learning Center in Waco Tuesday morning.

The more than $500,000 facility opened in September 2016.

The 24 students who attended engaged in teamwork exercises while learning about the Challenger expedition.

Sixth grader Landry May said he enjoyed the experience, and learned a lot from his visit.

“It’s really fun, like it’s really thrilling and you just get to learn a lot of really cool stuff. It’s amazing,” said May.

Students participated in mission control simulators, worked in a laboratory, and visited a planetarium.

It was these hands on activity that sixth grader Ryan Rhea said helped put things in perspective.

“You come here and learn about it, and just get to be a part of it so you can understand it more,” said Rhea.

The educational center is the newest of its kind in Texas, with the two other locations in Harlingen and San Antonio.

Other McLennan County schools will visit the center throughout the month.
