Waco: Midway supt. named regional superintendent of the year

WACO, Texas (KWTX) Midway ISD Superintendent Dr. George Kazanas has been named the Region 12 superintendent of the year.

As such, Kazanas will also represent the region for Texas superintendent of the year.

Kazanas, an educator of 27 years who has been at the helm of Midway ISD since 2012.

Before joining the Midway ISD, he served as superintendent of the China Spring Independent School District.

“We are delighted to recognize Dr. Kazanas as one of the top superintendents in the state,” said Dr. Jerry Maze, executive director of the Region 12 Education Service Center.

“He was chosen by a committee of school board members from around our region for his leadership and commitment to his students, staff and community.”

The SOTY award program has been sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards since 1984.

According to TASB’s website, they are chosen for their strong leadership skills, commitment to community support and involvement, and improving the quality of education within their districts.

If Kazanas wins at the state level, Midway ISD would receive a $5,000 award to be presented at the 2018 TASA/TASB Convention in Austin; there will also be four finalists whose districts receive a $1,000 prize.
