Engine 8 is a part of department’s apparatus replacement program.

Every ten to 15 years, the department receives new engines to better serve the city.

Waco Fire Chief Bobby Tatum said they are always looking at ways they can improve the department.

“We always want to ensure we are providing our firefighters with the best tools to do their job to protect the citizens in the best way we can,” Tatum said.

Tatum said they are currently working on two big year-long projects that will help better serve the community.

“In the next two years, we are looking at our priorities. We are beginning to build two new fire stations,” Tatum said.

Stations 5 and 6 will be rebuilt soon.

Tatum said they hope Station 5 will be completed by April 2019.

The fire department hopes these changes will make a difference in helping the community.

Waco resident Rae Snyder said she is thankful for the fire department and everything they do.

“They’ve given our community so much that we just wanted to show our support and appreciation to everything they did,” Snyder said.
