WACO, Texas (KWTX) Thousands of people joined together for one of the largest worship celebrations, “The Gathering,” at McLane Stadium on Palm Sunday.

The worship ceremony featured a mass choir of 1,000 voices, and guest pastor and former NFL player Miles McPherson. "Here's an opportunity for all the Waco area and here in this part of Texas to come together to worship and hear the hope of Christ," McPherson said.

The event was free, but donations of canned goods were collected to be given to Caritas and Shepherd’s Heart food pantries. Baylor seminary student Scotty Swingler said, "We can help this city in a big way if we work together."

Baylor student Meryn Mcclain attended the Gathering, and she said she had high hopes for the positive atmosphere at the event. "The bible says where 2 or 3 are gathered, their God is also, so I'm thinking where 30,000 are gathered, God will extra be there and I think it'll be very powerful," she said.

Over 130 different churches of different denominations attended the celebration.

This year is the second year for the Gathering which started in 2015. “It's just really fun seeing the entire city come together and worship God," Baylor senior Erica Kaze said.
