WACO, Texas (KWTX) Waco Transit is offering free bus rides Saturday as part of their "Free Fare Day" event in conjunction with tax free weekend.

Waco Transit Assistant General Manager, Allen Hunter said this is the 9th year they have offered the free rides.

"We know a lot of folks are going to be out doing shopping this weekend trying to take advantage of tax free weekend. We're trying to do our part to help give back to some of our passengers," said Hunter.

Hunter said buses will service all the major shopping areas including the Central Texas Marketplace and Richland Mall.

Beginning from 6:15 a.m. until 8:15 p.m. people can ride free on any of the 9 fixed bus routes that serve the City of Waco and surrounding areas.

"If people just want to come out and ride the buses today and bring their kids or grandkids it's a great way to come out and see the community, and it won't cost you a dime," said Hunter.

The event is made possible through partnership with Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas.

Buses can be boarded at any of the fixed route stops or at the transfer station located at 301 South 8th Street in Waco.

Residents can also download the free "Ride Systems" app which shows where buses are in real time.

Anyone with specific questions can contact the Waco Transit dispatch center at 254-750-1613.
