Warrant issued for suspect in shooting that left local man injured

COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) An arrest warrant charging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon has been issued for a suspect in a late-night shooting on May 12 in Copperas Cove that left a local man injured.

Ronald Warren Smith, Jr., 34, remains at large.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

He’s 6-foot-1 and weighs about 240 pounds, police said Thursday.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. May 12 to a report of the shooting in the 500 block of North 1st Street in Copperas Cove, police said Monday.

While they were en route, police learned that a family member was taking the 34-year-old victim to Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.

The man was later transferred to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

His name and information about his condition were not released.

“Witnesses informed officers that there was a verbal altercation, which led to gunshots being fired,” police said in a press release Monday.
