WEST, Texas (KWTX) It was a wild Friday night for police officers in the City of West when a horse escaped a trail riding event at the West Fair & Rodeo Grounds.

“Your West officers had to put on their wrangling hats for a while,” said police Chief Darryl Barton.

Barton said “Duke,” a horse from the King Ranch Trailriders event, took a stroll through the downtown area, making it all the way to the Cefco Convenience Store off of Interstate-35.

After a 45-minute chase, Barton said officers finally caught Duke when he walked into a fenced backyard in the 500 block of South Harrison Street.

“Our big concern was keeping him off the service road and Interstate,” Barton said.

“Just another night shift for your West Officers in West, comma, Texas.”
