Alabama rallies to beat Georgia 26-23 in OT to win national championship

ATLANTA, Georgia The Alabama Crimson Tide came from 13 points behind to beat Georgia in overtime and claim the 6th National Championship in the Nick Saban era.

Georgia led 13-0 at halftime after a Mecole Hardman touchdown run for the Bulldogs. That touchdown was the only TD of the first half for either team.

Alabama rallied in the 2nd half after a change at quarterback. True freshman Tua Tagovailoa came in and ignited the Alabama offense. Tagovailoa threw a 3rd quarter touchdown to cut into Georgia's lead. He also made the big play in overtime, throwing a long touchdown to win the game after Georgia had kicked a field during their overtime possession.

The national championship is Nick Saban's fifth with Alabama and his sixth overall as a head coach, tying Bear Bryant.
