Classroom Champions: Crawford's Morgan Claxton

CRAWFORD, Texas (KWTX) Whether it's for basketball or volleyball, you can find Morgan Claxton in the Crawford High School gym. The three-sport senior is focused on hoops now after making the UIL state All-Tournament volleyball team.

"We've had to push her to gain that confidence to get all that she can out of her athletic ability," Crawford coach Brandon Ely said. "I think that she has. She's gotten better and better every year."

Along with back-to-back years of being the District 13-2A Offensive MVP in volleyball and an Academic All-District track member, Morgan has topped off the impressive accolades with a No. 2 class ranking.

One of her favorite sporting moments at Crawford includes the honoring of the 1975 basketball team before a game this year.

"It's cool to see the connection that you build with different people and how the (older) people still support you like the 1975 basketball team still supports us," Claxton said.

As for her collegiate plans, Morgan will be attending Texas A&M as an Occupational Therapy major.

"I want to help kids do daily activities when they may not be able to, such as walking and talking," Claxton said.

"She's never had a down day," Ely said. "That's pretty hard for a high school kid to not have a down day, but you've never had to worry. It's always the same Morgan every day. (She's) allways a pleasant person. I really miss that when kids like that leave."
