ARLINGTON, Texas The Jonesboro Eagles fell just short in their bid for a state championship Wednesday, losing to Borden County 60-22.
It's the second straight season the Eagles have lost to Borden County in the championship game.
Borden County came into the game as a big time favorite to win another title, but Jonesboro had the Coyotes on the ropes early in the game. The Eagles led 8-0 in the first quarter, then 14-8 later in the first. After falling behind 16-14, Jonesboro scored again to retake the lead 22-16.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they would not score again after taking that lead. Borden County scored 44 straight points in the rest of the first half and the second half to win another state title.
Jonesboro finishes 2nd in the state for the second straight season after the title game loss.
