WACO, Texas The Lake Air Softball team won the Little League Southwest Region tournament title Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over New Mexico. The win sends Lake Air on to Portland, Oregon and the Little League World Series next week.
Lake Air trailed for the first time in the entire tournament in the championship game, falling behind in the 3rd inning when New Mexico scored to take a 1-0 lead.
Lake Air answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice on a home run by leadoff hitter Asharah Thibodeaux. Her 2-run home run was the first by any team in the tournament that cleared the fence. Lake Air added one more run in the inning to lead 3-1.
Lake Air added three more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to put the game on ice and secure the championship.
With the 6-1 victory, Lake Air advances to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon next week.
