HEWITT, Texas The Marlin girls are going to the state tournament after a 59-54 regional championship game win over Grandview.
Led by Mystique Womack and her 37 points the Marlin girls have earned the program's first ever trip to the state tournament in San Antonio.
Marlin built an early lead in the game and held a 7-point advantage after a quarter. That lead was six at the half and Marlin was in control of the play. The lead got even bigger in the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs turned turnovers into points and led 41-29.
Grandview stormed back into the game in the 4th quarter. The Lady Zebras hit some three's and got a boost in the paint from Hanna Hudson as they cut the lead all the way down to 1.
Mystique Womack answered that run with one of her own late in the fourth quarter. Womack hit a couple of tough shots to make it a 4-point game. Then Womack found Aniya Williams for a basket inside and Williams was fouled. That was the dagger for the Marlin girls who wind up with a 59-54 win and a trip to the state tournament. They'll play in San Antonio on Thursday.
