UMHB baseball falls to Belhaven 11-2

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fell behind early and could not claw all the way back as the Cru dropped an 11-2 decision to Belhaven University Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi. UMHB drops to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Blazers improve to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the ASC with the victory.

Belhaven put up single runs in the second and fourth innings to grab a 2-0 lead. Dakota Best's RBI fielder's choice pulled the Cru to within 2-1 in the top of the fifth. The Blazers would answer with two runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch it to 4-1. Max Conway's RBI fielder's choice made it a 4-2 game in the top of the sixth, but Belhaven scored four in the bottom of the sixth and added three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Best had two hits for UMHB but the Cru was limited to five hits in the contest. Andrew Hutchings scattered five hits and gave up four runs in four and two-thirds innings to drop to 0-2 on the year. He struck out four and walked two as UMHB used seven different pitchers in the game.

The Cru will return to action with a 6:00 PM non-conference game against Southwestern University at Red Murff Field on Tuesday. UMHB will then host Louisiana College for a three-game ASC series next Friday and Saturday in Belton.
