Flags in Michigan will fly at half-staff Wednesday in honor of a Fort Hood soldier who died in the explosion of a homemade bomb in Iraq.

The people who have a problem with this obviously don't have respect for the military. Bet they'd have more respect if there were a draft...but there's not because people like my husband risk their lives so yours won't have to. I am so sorry for this family's loss. Not to mention this soldier's unit. May he rest in peace.

Jon why is it that when someone wants to pay their respects to a soldier who is defending their country, freedom, AND flag, by having their flags at half staff people get their undies in a bunch? If ANYONE deserves this honor it should be a soldier. Not a senator/politician who collects fat cash for putting on a suit and doing nothing. I know what the laws are governing this, but they should be changed. If the governor of any state wants to salute a hero by way of lowering the flag, then let them do it.

Sorry to burst the Governor of Michigan's bubble, but he cannot order the American flag to be flown at half staff. The state flag, yes.
