COPPERAS COVE (July 8, 2009) - A pair of running backs out of Copperas Cove will be trading in their Bulldawg uniforms next season for the Mean Green. Brelan Chancellor and Brandin Byrd verbally committed last month to play for Todd Dodge and the University of North Texas.
Byrd and Chancellor were District 12-5A First-Team selections last season. The duo are attending summer classes in hopes of graduating early and enrolling at UNT as soon as possible. Copperas Cove head coach Jack Welch says Byrd and Chancellor are a perfect fit for North Texas' style of offense.
The two running backs are following a trend at Copperas Cove of finishing high school early to get a jump start at the college level. Robert Griffin III did just that in 2008 with Baylor, and this past season, Tanner Brock and Josh Boyce enrolled at TCU early.

They, are just as good. Look at their winning precentage in 5A football. Thes two and the rest of the CCHS Football team are more of a team. there is no more ME!ME!ME! and I, I, I on the team. We have a TEAM now.

Congrats to these two. While they are indeed good, they are nowhere near the caliber of Griffin, Boyce or Brock, but a free education awaits them.
