AUSTIN (July 09, 2009)-Most of the State, including all of Central Texas, is being encouraged to conserve energy consumption following record-setting use Wednesday.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas says consumers used an hourly average of nearly 63-thousand megawatts of power Wednesday between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., beating the old record, set in 2006, by some 700 mega watts.
ERCOT officials say they expect continued high electricity demand Thursday.

Just wait until Obama is finished with us. We won't be able to afford electricity. We will all be sweating!

This is exactly as to why I've used the phrase "Back-To-The-Future' in the past. Some of you people are finally understanding what I have been telling you!! If any of you are old enough to remember how we used to do things, then you are lucky, but to those too young to know, then you had better be talking to some Baby-Boomers/Seniors to find out. Because we are fast coming to Back-in-the-good-old-days!!! I'm very sorry for those of you that do not know what I'm writting/talking about. The population has increased too much, and the younger generations have taken too much for granted!! Buy-up, use-up all you can, with 'no' worries about tomorrow?? Taking 'entirely' too much for granted!!!!! Not even understanding what the word 'Conserve' means????

They are asking people to conserve because peak usage could cause brownouts and other failures. As hot as it is, people rely on power for cooling and seniors, children etc. are put at risk. Utility companies don't generally generate much excess power because that's not profitable. Thank you deregulation. Something as important as power should probably not be left to private industry. Our rates versus regulated states is criminal. Oh, and just imagine we had wind farms, solar and other green power and energy efficient appliances and greener homes. Separatist nut jobs.
