especially to HMMMMMMMMMMM and Anonym. I posted on another Head line about the H1N1 virus about my granddaughter age 5 having the virus, she attends Ralph Wilsons Youth Club........But the real agrivating thing about this is the same week she was diagonosed her brother was confined to Bell County Jail. He was feeling ill the end of the week and we advised them of his being exposed. Took them 4 days to finally take him to the infermery. Thnk God he did not have it but look at how many people he would have exposed if he did. And did The folks at Bell Cty care.........Heck no he probably would have been on of the death if he had because they do not care about the inmates or thier health!

I am interested to see how the schools will address this - I think it is bad enough that adults do stupid things that allow the flu to spread, but it is really going to be tragic if the schools do not help us care for our children until we know more about what this could do or how badly we could be impacted as fall begins and school goes into session.

The woman who passed happened to be one of our good friends mom. 60 is not very old. She probably would have not died if Kings Duaghters had diagnosed her correctly 4 weeks ago when she went in not feeling well. My thoughts and prayers are with her family this weekend as they lay her to rest.

The woman who died did have some 'other health issues' but nothing that would have caused her death. She was a lady who was full of life, love, had an incredibly optimistic attitude and loved to help people. She always had a huge smile and hug for everyone. This H1N1 flu is gonna be bad folks. Get ready for it when school opens again. Lots and lots of kids are gonna be bringing it home. As it is a mutated gene virus, most of us don't have any natural immunity against it. The best way to avoid getting sick is to take proper hygenic precautions and yes, stay home when you are sick or keep your kids home if they are. Employers will have to adjust attitudes to protect the rest of their work force.

I think this is being blown out of proportion for some reason. People die of the flu--plane and simple. Why is the media trying to scare people? I am sorry these folks died but as I said people do die from the flu every year.

Amen Mom. I am tired of people trying to play it off and continue going out to work, daycare, movies, stores etc. Anything not to disrupt their lives. Stay home people!!! That one death could be on your hands. Sadly I guess most of them will never learn until it happens to their child or family member. Ignorance is not an excuse because it has been spelled out by the CDC and you have been warned.

Phil, the "regular flu season" is calculated over a 12 month period and infections pick up the pace as more people contract it (think of it as each person who gets it may come into contact with 5 or 10 more people... etc). So the fact that only 1 mil people have had it after two months is a lot more significant than you think. Add to it the fact that the people treating them, teaching them, working with them are not protected due to the lack of a vaccine and you start to get why people are so concerned. Think a little deeper than the numbers. And "I'm Sure", 60 is not that old, and you are just assuming she had other issues and/or lack of a healthy immune system.

I don't care about statistic's, if you are sick, STAY HOME!!! Yes there are oter flu related deaths, but for a parent with an immune suppressed child, this phrase would not be a comfort :( So please consider those that are not as healthy as you might be!!!! Your carelessness could cost them their Life!!!

I'm sorry she died, but she was 60 years old. Her immune system isn't as good as it used to be. Other things can factor into it not JUST the swine flu

This is from Wikipedia: WHO anticipates having some vaccines ready by September 2009, and by mid October for the U.S., but even then they expect that the supply will be limited. Two or three vaccine injections will be required for maximum immunity from both the swine flu and seasonal flu. There is also concern that the virus could mutate later in the year and become more virulent and less susceptible to any new vaccine. This concern is partly due to the memory of the 1918 flu pandemic, which is thought to have killed between 40 million and 100 million people, and was preceded by a wave of milder cases in the spring

Well Phil......hopefully you or a member of your family won't be another tragic death. Are you trolling around websites spouting the whole "conspiricy theory" of the imaginary swine flu? If you really want to have it that badly there are people all over Temple that are happy to spread it to you. They don't think it matters either. I just hope you don't see your name in the paper next.

Hey Phil, the man who died was 49. How old are you? That is not elderly! They are saying this flu seems to be more deadly for the young and middle aged more so than for the very young or very old.

Her death is tragic, but why is swine flu still in the news? There have been just under 100k confirmed cases in the U.S. with around 430 deaths (CDC estimates 1mill people might have actually contracted it). The common seasonal flu infects between 15mil and 60mil a year resulting in roughly 36k deaths. So the fatality rate in the U.S. for swine flue is around .04% while the fatality rate for seasonal flue is between .24% and .06%. Swine is LESS dangerous than seasonal flu. I'd rather have swine flu over seasonal flu, at least I'd get my name in the paper and be more secure in my chances of survival, which realistically at those numbers don't matter for anyone who isn't an infant or elderly/very ill. The stats I got can be found in Forbes and the EPR (Epidemic, Pandemic Alert Response)Report.

Where are all of the " it's the flu, no big deal" people now? I am sick of all the excuses I have read on here or heard from other people. Stay home if you are sick and be concerned about somebody else other than yourself.

To hmmmmmmm.............my guess would be to turn them into the CDC and then call KWTX and let them know who they are. One death that could have been prevented is one too many. STAY HOME PEOPLE!!!!!!!
