"Paramedic in Copperas Cove": While on the stand the young woman testified, herself, in her own words that Kasey used TWO FINGERS during his assessment. I heard this myself, while sitting in the courtroom. Where did you get your information? [ Report Abuse ]

True, Paramedic, there is a difference between assessing and fondeling a patient. The girl testified on the stand that he only used two fingers the entire time he was doing his assessment. Doesn't sound like "fondeling" to me. [ Report Abuse ]

I am currently a paramedic, and this sounds like a suit-happy person that accused this man of doing such a thing. Sometimes it is necessary to "palpate" the chest to search for an unstable chest. Some people are uneducated to what are jobs consist of so they may assume that "we" are fondling them. This guy lost his job for doing a thourough assesment of the patient. [ Report Abuse ]

I don't blame people for their negative comments seeing how the media portrayed this case...completely without all the facts! Extremely one sided! However, I am so glad there was a smart and unbiased jury. Obviously they were presented with all the facts and could see thru to the truth! Glad the girl didn't go unchecked. If he would have missed a life threatening injury would he be on trial for missing something? No, instead he was on trial for being thorough (being taken the wrong way). Congrats Kasey [ Report Abuse ]

I WAS at the trial & heard all of the testimonies. Kasey did not do what he was accused of doing. The jury made the correct decision. It is a paramedic’s duty to do a head to toe assessment of their patients. They have a set protocol to follow and that is what Kasey did and nothing more. There are many stories going around that are false and/or half truths. The jury took the evidence they were presented and came to the decision of NOT guilty. Having been present at the trial and having heard the same evidence the jury heard, they made the correct decision. There are many details and questions about the way this entire investigation was handled that the media has chosen to omit regarding Mr. Calvery’s so called “confession”. It is my opinion that if the public chooses to cast stones and have opinions on any matter as profound and potentially detrimental to a fellow being, then the least that person can do is stand up to their statements and use their real names. As a medic who has worked for a few local agencies, I have seen this situation more than once. I personally know of a guy who made it a practice to 'fondle' his patients. Even after complaining, the only thing ever done to this particular person was termination from the agency. I have had patients yell at me, try to bite me, spit at me, hit me, etc. It's frustrating. From both ends. I think though, that if the jury looked through the evidence at the trial and found him not guilty, that should be enough. Charges like that will have a negative effect on a person's career. Revokation of their license, termination from the agency, etc. It's not worth it. I can never figure out why the person I mentioned earlier would ever want to take that risk. It's not worth it. Most people are aware of that. [ Report Abuse ]

Hey Gary, why don't you learn how to spell first. Why is it not ok for people to have opinions? You certainly have your own for thinking that the 18 year old is a "SNOT" and you don't even know her. Did you also ever stop to think that maybe some of these people were in fact there and heard all of the evidence, hints as to why so many people are shocked. Think before you speak. You are awful quick to be her judge, jury, and executioner. Maybe you are the one with the "God Syndrome". Must be nice to live in your glass house. Hope no one throws the stone. [ Report Abuse ]

I dont know if he confessed or not, I have seen many type errors on the part of KWTX web masters in other news stories and a lot of coments from the public about them, but we must let the jury do its job. Lets leave it alone the court has done its job [ Report Abuse ]

No "me" ....you imagine being an EMT and have some 18 year 'SNOT' make a false accusation about you that could pretty well not only end your carrier but your life by having you labeled as a sex offender. The judicial system may very well be screwed up in many ways, but that doesn't change the FACT that a jury heard the evidence and determined that "he didn't do it". Unless you and the other "gods", who are determined to pronounce your own verdict, were at the trial and heard all the evidence, you have no grounds for condemning the decision of the court. Before anyone else wants say congrats Kasey, I think you should think about a few things before you make yourself look anymore stupid than you already have. First, a grown man DID confess to doing this for his own gratification. You don't do that to save your kids or to think your doing the right thing and even if you were pressured into confessing you wouldn't go as far as saying it was for your own sexual gratification. Second, how would you feel if this was your daughter, wife, sister, or mother....it wouldn't be all congrats then would it? Now do I need to say more? [ Report Abuse ]

From what I've read, and from what I've gathered talking to people who have first hand knowledge of went went on, this guy waa hung to dry by one of his supervisors. The Deputy Police Chief of Cove screwed up the interrogation. I'll be surprised if he doesn't sue the city of Copperas Cove for his attorney fees, lost wages, etc. [ Report Abuse ]

The reason why he "confessed" is to save his kids!! He didn't want them to have to hear the rumors, if there was actually evidence then don't you think the jury would have found him guilty!! I'm glad he was found not guilty and now he can move on with his life!! The sad thing is when you are a FF or EMT you are suppose to stand by your "brothers and sisters" some didn't and still don't...Congrats Kasey!! [ Report Abuse ]

Before making harsh accusations or passing judgements (that is what the jury was for) I would challenge all of you to get ALL the facts. The jury heard BOTH sides and made an informed decision about who was lying. To Helen, just for your information a "child molester" is someone who assaults someone under the age of 18. According to the court the girl was over 18 and no "Assault" occured. Sometimes, the media is not interested in the "Whole truth" but more in what sounds good or will sell more papers. This was in God's hands and HIS will was done. [ Report Abuse ]

Happy to hear that the jury made a decision. I had to say, REALLY... when i first heard this story; how does a paramedic fondle someone with "usually" many many witnesses around or in the area; dash cams on everything nowadays and most all paramedics I've met are very impartial, they are HIGHLY TRAINED AND FOCUSED on their job at hand and do what they need to do regardless of what the person looks like. I didn't make any rush judgements before hand, but it looks like i was right and there was just another Gold digger out there wanting a get rich quick lawsuit! The man confessed that he did this to the young woman, thats why he lost his job. How this ended up with his acquital is not Justice. Good, the truth prevails. It's sad that 1st responders now have to keep attorney's on retainer & memberships to agency's to defend us in this situation. Every time I have to render aid i'm terrified, CPR & Breaking a Rib, moving somebody & something else happens, I live with it because I chose this profession to help total strangers. High Speed collision with Bridge abuttment requires exposing the chest and examining for internal injuries, broken ribs etc. Sadly I get the feeling that she filed the complaint hoping the city would "just settle" and she would get paid for her own stupidity (causing her to hit the bridge). I think it's sad that the justice system has failed this girl and her family. It's pathetic that someone would use his position of authority to violate someone in the manner that he did. As EMS personnel, it is your duty to take care of people and make them feel safe, not violate them for “your own personal gratification”. He should NOT get his job back, nor should he qualify for any kind of back pay! I agree, sometimes the public can be quick to judge. Sometimes, however, their judgments are correct. My heart goes out to the victim and her family for having to go through such an arduous process, only to be failed in the end. [ Report Abuse ]

I am glad that the jury understands. Most people, accident victims especially, are in a state of shock and it is very easy to think unclearly. Most EMS professionals are just that - professional. They have too much going on to take care of their patients (in front of their peers) to worry about whether you are pretty or not. We should all be thankful for those who serve the public, whether they be EMS, police, or fire fighters. Their main concern is to HELP you. [ Report Abuse ]

How about charging her with making false statements and has she been investigated for possibly doing this before. It seems to me like his superiors would have gone over what he did and why in that ambulance and then made their own evaluation. It seems to me that these people men and women that are front line life savers put themselves at risk for a lawsuit everytime the attend to someone. I could see if she had a broken ankle and he ripped her shirt off to expose her when it had nothing to do with what was wrong. I wouldn't want his job nor would I want the job he lost back. Things like this will eventually lead to people not wanting to help anyone to avoid getting accused of something. He would have to be one motivated individual to get his jollies just from touching a females breasts in the back of an ambulance. Good to you my friend, I know exactly what it feels like to be accused of something that is proven to be a bald faced lie and it is hard to overcome the feelings. [ Report Abuse ]

I think this is such a sensitive issue and people that don't know the details of the case should keep their comments discreet. For a woman to make a report like this with nothing to gain but humiliation, takes alot from her. If he is guilty, then he will pay for it in time. Whether WE believe she was victamized, doesn't matter. What matters is that she felt that way. If she lied, then she will pay for it when the time comes. I just ask that people be respectful to both parties.

Twenty years ago, a massage therapist was FINALLY brought to trial in Waco....after numerous complaints, with over 200 who could have been called to witness against him. He was acquitted--6=6--in a travesty of "justice", which is what this appears to be....since the man confessed. No medical technician needs to touch a woman's nipples. No medical technican who touches a woman's nipples needs to be a medical technician. Sexual abusers abuse repeatedly, and I will guarantee you there were others who did not come forward. If he touched this woman inappropriately....and his touch was, by his own admission of guilt, inappropriate....his "career" deserved ruination. I know there are times when accusations are unjust, but this does not appear to be a misrepresentation. You have no comprehension what it required of this woman to make this complaint. Sexual abusers don't abuse "just once". The never stop....for their lifetimes. If it was YOUR daughter, wife, girlfriend? How'd U feel?

If you feel you are being touched inappropriately, chances are you're probably right. Something like this is very hard to prove in court, especially if the allegations are against a health care giver because it's very easy to manipulate what they are doing as medically evaluating or assessing. I believe the allegation here refers to him fondling her nipples, I don't really know why he would have to touch her nipples unless they were falling off. I don't know if this man is guilty or innocent all I know is I personally would be able to know if what my health care provider was doing was inappropriate or unnecessary.....wouldn't you?

To Gary: re:"show me ANY word that I've failed to spell correctly". If you meant someone was carrying something that was ended, you didn't mispell anything; however, I think you meant "career" instead of "carrier".

There are 3 sides to the story, hers, his and the truth. The man confessed because he was forced to. He did his job because it is what he is trained to do. The girl could have suspected "fondeling", but all he did was his job. It is very easy for someone to feel like they were fondeled or what have you when we are doing our jobs, because of the assessments that we have to do. Any EMT will tell you that they are supposed to expose and palpate for injuries when trauma happens. That is what we are taught. Everybody needs to remember that they were not in the back of that ambulance when whatever happened. Everybody makes it sound like they were there. You weren't. Go buy any EMT course book and anyone of them will tell you to expose and palpate for injuries. What is wrong with doing his job and helping this girl? It has been addressed that he used 2 fingers, not his whole hand, so he couldn't have "cupped" her breast. Maybe he accidentally brushed her nipple, who knows. Be careful
[ Report Abuse ]
Anonymous... I could continue this debate but it would never end. We each have our own beliefs on what happened and and we are allowed that by our laws (for now, anyway). This is the last time I will respond to you because Kasey Calvery was tried in a court of law, and, to be honest, the DA actually appeared to be very knowledgable and on his toes as he presented the states evidence. His closing arguments were especially strong. However, HE did advice the jury to base their decision on the evidence presented on the witness stand and not on his or the defense's opening or closing arguments. The jury found Mr. Calvery NOT GUILTY. Case closed, Praise God! As far as his touching her nipple area, that is her word against his, enough said. As to your last comment, when laying down, as you would be on a stretcher,if you palpate on either side of your sternam you WILL feel your ribs whether you are a man or a heavily endowed woman.
i think he needs to confess to his wife how many times he has really done this.i know of more times than this one.this man is a liar and will be judged by god!
Normally Charlene it's the lateral part of the rib that is broken and not the medial part which is attached to the sternum. So, since you have been using your vast knowledge for 16 years, please explain why it was necessary for the nipple to be touched? Also, were there not several people that said it was not necessary to remove her bra. In fact, one of those people happened to be a doctor who has worked in the emergency room for years. I think he would be more knowledgeable than a paramedic, you, or I. Please keep an open mind to other facts instead of being so bent on the fact that he did nothing wrong. The comment stating that it would be virtually impossible to examine the area without feeling through the fatty tissue sounds to me like your saying that if you feel through the breast you can feel ribs....I've never hear of that being possible.
Charlene, I'm so glad that you commented on Kasey trail and gave the facts to alot of people!! Once again Congrats to Kasey!!!
Anonymous, thank you. Yes, I did hear the defense's expert witness talk about not touching the fatty tissue of the breast. I agree that the fatty tissue of the breast should not be groped but touching it is imperative in order to assess if the ribs or pectoral muscles have been injured. I believe it was a fault of the defense for not questioning this witness more in depth on that very subject. I am a massage therapist and have studied anatomy and put those studies to use for 16 years. Both the ribs and the pectoral muscles lie underneath a portion of the breast tissue, especially if the person has larger breasts. It is virtually impossible to examine that area without feeling "through" the fatty breast tissue.
Hey Charlene, glad that you feel great about yourself because you used your name. I guess you seem to forget the part where the defense called their expert witness to the stand and he himself said that you do not touch the "fatty tissue" of a woman when doing the assement which in turn is her breast. So does it really matter how he touched them? The fact is that he still did it and he didn't need to, so think about that for a moment since you seem to know everything!
