Houston police began searching for Shamali Flores after officers found her mother's body in her north Houston apartment around noon on Tuesday.

Police initially believed the infant girl was with her father, but late Tuesday he and his car were found in San Antonio and the infant girl was still missing.

Houston police spokesman John Cannon said Wednesday that he was not considered a suspect or person of interest in the death of Carolina Flores, 33.

Police now think the person who abducted the infant likely knew the child’s family.

Police Chief Art Acevedo said Wednesday one theory of investigators is the possibility Shamali Flores may have been abducted by a woman who might present the child as her own.

The six-week-old girl is black, 30 inches tall, weighs 20 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
