TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Hanging out by a pool is the last place anyone would be in the cold weather much less go for a swim.
But a group of brave people are taking the plunge to make a difference in 2018.
Early Monday morning, Temple residents gathered at the Lions Junction Family Water Park to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge raising money for the 4-1-1 project.
They are a foundation that mentors boys and men in the community.
“It's a fun opportunity to come out with some friends and support them” said participant David Rapp.
Rapp says the experience was a challenge.
“It’s freezing. I'm losing sensation in most of my limbs, it's pretty icy.”
People of all ages took the plunge and were cheered on by family and friends.
“I feel fine now. Once you jump in your head gets a little cold and your body gets into shock but after that you get out and get warm” said participant Ben Allen.
Participants were given blankets, hot chocolate and donuts.
