US Special Forces troops killed in Niger identified

WASHINGTON (KWTX) The military Friday identified three U.S. Special Forces troops who died in an attack in Niger as Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, 35, of Puyallup, Wash., Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, 39, of Springboro, Ohio, and Staff. Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, 29, of Lyons, Ga.

All three were assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Two other U.S. soldiers were wounded in the attack, which occurred Wednesday in southwest Niger.

The troops came under fire while on a reconnaissance patrol.

U.S. forces are in Niger to provide training and security assistance to the Nigerien Armed Forces in their efforts against violent extremists.
