Texas voters support families of fallen first responders

By  |

Texans made moves to support the families for first responders who have fallen in the line of duty by voting into law a tax exemption for the widow.

This happened on the same week Department of Public Safety Trooper Thomas Nipper was laid to rest. He died after being hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop.

The exemption aims to ease the financial burden of families who not only lose a loved one but an income.

The homestead exemption can be applied anywhere in the state, even if the widow moves.

If the widow remarries then the exemption no longer applies.
