(January 20, 2008)--Actress Suzanne Pleshette has died at her home in Los Angeles.
She was 70.
Pleshette made a mark in movies and the theater but is probably best known and loved for her role as the wife on the long-running TV sitcom, ``The Bob Newhart Show.''
Comedian Newhart played a Chicago psychiatrist surrounded by eccentric patients.
Pleshette provided the voice of reason.
Four years after the show ended in 1978, Newhart went on to the equally successful ``Newhart'' series, playing the proprietor of a New England inn populated by more eccentrics and a different wife.
In that show's memorable finale, Newhart wakes up in his bedroom in Chicago and Pleshette, as the wife, informs him it was all a crazy dream.
Pleshette underwent chemotherapy in 2006 for lung cancer.
Her attorney says she died Saturday night of respiratory failure.
