(May 8, 2008)--A group of Lithuanian artists wants to give the city of Baltimore a bronze statue of Frank Zappa.
The city of Baltimore says, great, we'll take it.
Representatives of a Zappa fan club in Vilnius, Lithuania, were in Baltimore Wednesday to pitch the idea to the city's public arts commission.
The commission has voted unanimously to accept the statue.
The fan club has erected a bronze bust of Zappa in Vilnius, even though Zappa never visited there and was Italian, not Lithuanian.
The statue for Baltimore is already made and the club will pay to ship it to Baltimore.
The city will figure out later where to put it.
Public art commission member Steve Ziger calls it "an incredibly generous gift" and "a good piece of art."
