(July 3, 2008)—Former Beatle Ringo Starr is asking people to celebrate his birthday on Monday by giving peace a chance.

Starr is asking everyone at noon local time wherever they are to join him in making a peace sign and either saying, singing, shouting, whispering, writing or thinking, "Peace and love."

Starr will be in Chicago on Monday, where he'll lead a group in thinking peace and love by the city's Buckingham Fountain.

Other gatherings are planned for Abbey Road Studios in London; Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland; Capitol Records in Los Angeles and Strawberry Fields in New York's Central Park.

Starr will be 68 on Monday.
